Power engineers of "Orenburgenergo" conducted ice melting on power lines

gololed.jpgDuring the new year holidays, specialists of the Eastern production division of the Rosseti Volga branch (the brand of IDGC of Volga PJSC) - Orenburgenergo conducted melting of ice and frost deposits on the wires of power lines with a voltage of 110 kV. The reason for the ice was high humidity, fog and air temperature, passing the zero mark.

According to the observations of employees of the Mednogorsky region of power grids (RES)in the area of the Sarinsky plateau the diameter of ice on the wires reached 15 mm. After inspecting the control points, the power engineers decided to conduct melting in order to prevent the accumiulation of ice, dancing and wire breaks under the weight of ice.

 -  The dispatcher evaluates the nature of the ice and performs calculations. Then the RES teams go to power facilities and collect ice melting schemes, " said Yevgeny Chepak, chief engineer of the Mednogorsk RES. - This usually takes up to 2 hours. Then an electric current is applied, the wires are heated, the ice melts and falls away.

The Orenburg branch has developed and uses 465 technological maps for melting ice on power lines. During the preparation of electric networks for operation in the autumn-winter period, the maps are updated, and the equipment of substations that can be used in the ice melting scheme is thoroughly checked. Already in the fall, trial tests and staff training are held.
